India’s Global Music Ambassador Santoor Maestro Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya who is a pioneering and revolutionary classical musician visited our school to perform for our students on September 20th, 2019.
Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya is one of the most celebrated Indian classical musicians, and has traversed the globe many times over performing in various awe inspiring venues around the world. He is the inventor of mankas or fine tuners that help tune the 100 stringed santoor quickly for long lasting effect and to a very high degree of accuracy. His innovative techniques of playing the santoor also facilitates the playing of Krintans, Ekharatans and Boltans, thus broadening the utility of the santoor in various traditional forms of music. He is recognized worldwide for his Ragdari as well as Layakari (mathematical calculations). His improvisation on the shape and string arrangements of the santoor is highly remarkable.
Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya has released over 150 CDs and cassettes like Sargam, Kirvani and Santoor. He is also the recipient of numerous felicitations such as the 1997 pre-Grammy nomination. He received his talim (music instructions) from his father Pandit Rabi Bhattacharya, Pandit Dulal Roy and later from the great Bharat Ratna Pandit Ravi Shankar. He is also Rotary International’s Global Ambassador for Peace and Goodwill.
