Scouts & Guides Junior Camp (Cubs & Bulbuls)

Eight children from Class V belonging to Cubs and Bulbuls attended a two day camp at the Bharath Scouts and Guides Office in Bhubaneswar. The Cubs attended the ‘Chathurth Charan’ camp, and the Bulbuls attended the ‘Heerak Pankh’ camp, appearing for tests to receive the Governor’s award. It was for the very first time that these children were staying away from home without any of their family members. Although most of them felt homesick on the first day, by the end of the camp they did not want to leave the new friends that they had made during the camp.

They had oral exams on the first day and written exams on the second day. They ate simple food without complaining, learning to eat whatever is available. It also taught them to appreciate their mothers more. They had to take care of their personal hygiene as well as keep their surroundings clean as they had to share their living space with others.

Children were taught to tie various types of knots such as Reef knots that are used to tie bandages and Clove Hitch knots that are used to fasten a rope to a spar or to another rope.

For all the children who attended the camp, it was an experience that they will always cherish in their hearts.
